Costa Farms Case Study: Node on Azure IoT & Azure Functions

Microsoft’s own Joe Raio will show us how Costa Farms used the cloud to monitor important business operations. Joe will show us the solution that was implemented including Node (Javascript) on Azure IoT and Azure Functions. He’ll also dive into how you can modify this solution into your own solutions. Costa Farms Case Study: Azure IoT & Azure Functions
Costa Farms is a family-owned group of companies headquartered in beautiful Miami, Florida that grow houseplants such as the canela tree, orchids, and Cecilia Aglaonema.

Learn how Joe Raio and his colleagues at Microsoft helped Costa implement a smart IoT solution to allow them to monitor important vital statistics of their nurseries in real time. The solution included using Arduino Devices, Azure IoT Hub, Azure Functions and more.

In this session we will walk through each piece of the puzzle. In addition, we will demonstrate how this same solution can be easily modified and applied to many different scenarios, not just farming.

Using Microsoft Edge and Vorlon.JS to Create a Better Web Experience

In this presentation we will walk you through using Vorlon.JS to debug your websites across multiple platforms and devices in real time. In addition, we will show you why using this powerful tool along with Microsoft Edge can help you provide the best experience to your users across all modern browsers and devices.

For web developers, Microsoft Edge brings an all new rendering engine, built to be interoperable with the modern web. Microsoft Edge is a clean break from the past focusing on interoperability with modern web standards and browsers so you can write modern markup once for all browsers.

Vorlon.JS in an open source, platform agnostic tool for remotely debugging and testing your JavaScript that is powered by node.js and socket.io.

Joe Raio is a Senior Technical Evangelist for Microsoft based in Pompano Beach, Florida. As a technical evangelist, Joe primary focuses on presentations leveraging the Microsoft Stack focused on website development and cloud technology. Prior to becoming an evangelist for Microsoft, Joe successfully owned and operated three small web development and digital marketing agencies.

Using VorlonJS & MainfoldJS

As the heat turns up outside dotNet Miami is bringing the heat on the inside. Have you ever wanted to remote debug your JavaScript? What about an easy way to move your web app into a native mobile experience? Microsoft Technical Evangelist Joe Raio will bring us the details on two JavaScript frameworks you may not be aware of. VorlonJS is an open source, platform-agnostic tool for remotely debugging and testing your JavaScript. And ManifoldJS is an open source platform that helps you reach more users than ever by packaging your web experience as native apps across Android, iOS, and Windows. This is going to be an awesome night of JavaScript goodness!

And as always we’ll have prizes at the end of the meeting. In addition the O’Reilly e-books and Pluralsite memberships we’ll be giving away a free copy of Resharper from Jet Brains!

Location

We’ll be meeting at the Microsoft Innovation Center at Venture Hive. The Microsoft Innovation Center in Miami (MIC Miami) is a state-of-the-art technology facility open to students, software developers, academic faculty, entrepreneurs, and startups for collaboration and skills development. Microsoft Innovation Center at Venture Hive is located at 1010 NE 2nd Ave Miami, FL 33132.

There’s limited parking in front of Venture Hive. If that lot is full there’s an empty lot directly behind the Venture Hive building. A more secure option is to purchase a parking pass ahead of time to park in the building lot. Vehicles without a parking pass are subject to immobilization or tow. Parking passes can be purchased at:
https://www.parkjockey.com/checkout/1000810/201505081200/201505081500 You’ll have to purchase the pass before the event.

And Don’t Miss the After Party…

We’re working out the details of the After Party. We’ll send an update when we’ve nailed down the details.
